Structural Exercise

When it comes to utilizing weight bearing exercises one type of exercise every good strength program should have are structural. Structural exercises are any exercise that involves several muscle groups, loads the spine and hips and allows for a greater amount of volume to be used when training.

Structural exercises are core exercises because muscular stabilization of posture must be met in order for them to be performed. Structural exercises require coordination both within a muscle group and between muscle groups making them more beneficial to athletes. Structural exercises have been shown to increase both bone and muscular strength and development. In terms of injury prevention a body that has been conditioned through a program of regular structural exercise is going to be much stronger and more resilient.

Some examples of structural exercises are; Squats, Deadlifts, Olympic Lifts, Lunges and Shoulder Presses. Stay tune because in the future I am going to give you six structural exercises every serious athlete should master!

Until then good luck and good training,
