Flexibility Training
flexibilityFlexibility one of the most important areas of training and one of the most misunderstood. When trained properly the advantages of flexibility are greater overall body strength, increased mastery of your own muscular skeletal system, stress relief and improved relaxation, reduced muscle tightness, reduced injury potential, greater elasticity of the body and resiliency to explosive, sudden and dynamic movements.

Unfortunately most flexibility programs focus only on increasing single-joint range of motion with very little application to anything athletic or dealt with in day to day living. Most often stretching is done by holding a static position for a long period of time waiting for the muscle to relax enough to allow one to hold the stretch a little “deeper.” This is the least effective way to achieve flexibility.  Our goal is not to just increase a single-joint range of motion. We want to increase the elasticity, resilience and flexibility of your entire body. Our training will improve your body’s ability to “spring-back” in a ballistic manner from dynamic, sudden and explosive movements improving your body’s overall proficiency and resistance to injury.

To do this you have to strengthen your entire body through every range of motion. In fact there are actually six types of flexibility that need to be trained to achieve this. The key is learning to master the tension applied to your muscles through specific techniques that will allow your body to just “let go.”

Some of these techniques include;
  • Post Isometric Relaxation
  • Reciprocal Inhibition
  • Proprioceptive Neuro-Muscular Facilitation (PNF)
  • Myofascial Release Techniques
  • Partner Assisted Movement
  • Dynamic Exercises
  • Tai Massage Techniques
  • Mental Game Coaching and Visualization
  • Range of Motion Strengthen Training

If you are not actively using all of these techniques in your current training program you are not going to get the optimal results. In fact if your current strength training, conditioning or just general fitness program does not include even just a few of these techniques it’s not a good program!

While most people get tighter and tighter as they age these few here just get looser and looser through their training at Rot Iron Sports!
